RE: Has anyone received any orders from late April

They changed the import laws in Australia so that all items, regardless of value; attract GST and Duty. 🙁

I’m fully expecting a charge upon delivery in Canada for tax and duty but my fingers are crossed that I will be pleasantly surprised.

So is it legal to ship it to a friend in another country, then have that friend ship you a box of Haribo's and a couple printer parts valued at no more than $100?  Asking for a friend.

I don't know what that is in US but it sounds painful.  Was that because you went over a certain limit?  In the US you get tagged if your bill goes over $800, and just adding the textured sheet tips you over the top.  Separate orders avoids all that.

Wow, I wish I had known this before placing my order... I ordered the kit with a few extra spools. How much of a bill am I looking at?

10% - they don’t provide an exemption for lower values anymore. You’ll get a call/email from the shipping company with details - make sure you get a receipt since it’s not unusual for the paperwork to get lost between branches.

Ugh, wow, damn. I feel like this should be stickied in every thread!

Thanks for the heads up. At least it won't be a surprise now.

If it looks like something is undervalued, they can be quite detailed - scanning the barcode, looking things up online, etc.. You can get away with it, but there's a risk you won't - and the fines can be pretty high. They'll be focusing on it this year too, since it's really early in the lifespan of the new laws. Sucks, since it's basically +AU$100 or so.

That information was right next to the BUY button on Prusa's website.  It specifically says adding the textured sheet will put you over $800 and US customers will get hit with customs fees.  That's why I ordered the printer on a separate ticket from the MMU, textured sheet and several rolls of filament.  They still shipped the filament with the printer.

Clearly I missed that in my excitement to click! Shame. Thanks for the education.

You don’t always get hit with customs duties just because it hits $800. In fact, in my experience it usually isn’t flagged.  You legally can be charged but you likely won’t.

I just received my kit plus two sheets today (New York via FedEx). It sat in customs for a day but it was released without fees.

@tim-stevens

If your parcel has not shipped, you could try contacting Prusa on Chat, and asking them to split your order.

I have found them very helpful in the past!

Mind, I am normally adding to orders!

Thanks. I tried to add a few things a few weeks back and was told it'd delay my order, which I didn't want to risk. Just did a little searching and it's apparently a 3% fee. Not ideal, but I can handle that if it prevents the shipment from getting pushed back further.

Appreciate all the info. I see how I missed that note on the site before: I just clicked the "add" button directly from the search results. Alas...

@big-d

Check you Customs calculation sheet when you get it.

DHL declared the shipping and insurance as being $340.56AUD instead of the actual $132.30AUD I paid.

We pay GST on that figure, so it added over $20AUD to the Customs bill!   😡

I've sent them a 'please explain', but haven't received a response.

It adds insult to injury when the DHL duty officer failed to release my parcel after I paid the bill. Then when it did arrive at my local depot, they let it sit in a freight cage without sorting for a whole day.

I then organised pickup from the depot, but they didn't send me the 'available for collection' notification till 15mins after they closed for the day today.

The only saving grace is tomorrow is Friday, so I'll be able to collect it before the weekend.

RE: Has anyone received any orders from late April

Ouch, that sucks to hear Morphias, because I'm also in Brisbane and am looking to order the MK3S (unassembled kit) in the next week or so.

I was close to getting the Creality CR-10S but I've just heard too many bad stories so Prusa's reliability and support swayed me. With the crappy AUD exchange rate and now stupid tax and duties it's close to twice the price of the Creality and makes the Prusa a hard sell. The AUD has lifted against the USD and Euro in the last few weeks so that will limit the damage I hope.

For Taxes and Duties, was the final figure taking into account the shipping cost as well? Because that would add a bit extra. If it wasn't you should dispute that. I hope I can get Prusa to explicitly tag on the box the Value of the printer + DHL shipping charge separately. I'm not paying taxes and duties on shipping as well!
