Giant 3d printer for building affordable houses

I ran across this in this mornings NY Times and I find this to be a very interesting application of 3d technology.

A 12 foot tall 3d printer is being used in Mexico to, literally, 3d print houses for low-income residents.

The article is on line here, but it's behind a paywall, so if you do not have a subscription it may be challenging to read.

I took the liberty of posting this shot, which shows the machine.  Other than being fed from a cement mixer instead of a filament spool, it does resemble a humongous RepRap type printer on steroids.

Cheerio,

Actually, I've known of concrete boats that really float and are usable.  😉

Yes, I've worked with a fair amount of floating concrete; but if Prusa want a really mindblowing XL suggestion:

Hmm

That is just a little bigger than I fly.  My largest weighs 206 pounds.  The largest amatrue launch was a scale Saturn V.  I think it weighed 1200-1600 pounds but that is by memory.

I am mentoring a college club and they are 3D printing quite a bit of the rocket to include the nozzle, some metal parts, and nose cone.  They have a fabrication shop and budget that makes me drool.

I think the idea of 3D printed houses is a good idea.  It absolutely could make them more affordable.  I wish they would make me a concrete cellar.
