Re: Choice of filament in uk

I was confused at that, I suspect they make the stuff in Europe but they have free shipping so availability in uk is there which is okay with me. Prefer to buy British if possible ; sadly, having been directly in touch with Mattforge it has no samples and I don't want to buy 1kg and find I am unhappy with it. They responded very promptly which is always a good sign and I may well give them a go at a later stage when feeling rich

Yeah that's part of the problem - if you want British, then you pay a hefty premium - £32 for Rigid Ink, for example. and that recycled stuff from Filamentive is £25 plus postage. Perhaps I am too tight paying £15/Kg from Amazon with free postage (note not AmazonBasics as I haven't found anything I need yet) as I am a Prime member.

Your not tight, filament prices vary enormously but I always like to price in the fails which cost in filament. My fails are much less common but it is hard to know if this is down to experience or better filament. I am in the process of trying a reel of transparent SunLu PLA+ and so far so good. I still find the surface finish of rigid.ink fantastic. Rarely needs any finishing but I will continue to post up the different filaments as not much on the filaments available in uk.

RE: Choice of filament in uk

Hello!

Just wanted to add a reply into the mix in case anyone is still in search of a UK filament provider. We've just launched our UK PLA, which as the name suggests, is made here in the UK.

It's taken months of developments and over a million metres of filament! But we are very happy with the results and think anyone who prints with the product will be too. If anyone is tempted to try, do get in touch 🙂

Thanks
Callum

Thanks for posting Callum.  Just been on your site and like what you have so far.  I especially like the changeover colours option.

I do a lot of larger parts that ended up being post processed and painted anyway so a change of colour is not a problem for those prints.

I've just had a delivery of 3 rolls but I think I will order at least a couple to try out and support a UK manufacturer.

No problem and glad to hear you like the look of the changeover rolls! Not sure how much you read of that page, but these changeover rolls are created when we change from one colour to the next. Many manufacturers shred them back up to create their 'recycled' blends, but we think this is slightly misleading as they end up less environmentally friendly than the virgin material! Since they're perfectly usable in the first place we think they should be made available directly and as you mention, a perfect option for anyone who post-processes their prints. Depending on where the colour changes in the spool, some of them look really cool.

We're currently in the process of standardising the order of our colours to make it less of a logistical challenge to list all the different types. But since they're sort of a new offering in the filament industry, I'm really glad you've picked up on them 🙂

Callum there doesn't appear to be an account creation mechanism on your website.  You can log in but not actually create an account which seems problematic.  Guess I wont be ordering anything afterall.

@neophyl

You can create an account once you are at the checkout part of the process, there is a checkbox option to create an account (below address). Saves entering details too many times.

Thanks
Callum

Filament

I only print PETG - but all of my filament has come from Amazon, Sunlu, Amazon Basics, overture, esun, eono etc.  The only one I have been dissapointed by was the white Sunlu - its almost transparent when printed.  Everything else has worked nicely!
