Any info on the Prusa XL?

Any new info on the Prusa XL?  I would like to purchase a 40 cm x 40 cm printer that is CoreXY.  I know that Prusa is working on this printer.  Any updates at this point?  Can we get it for Christmas?

RE: Any info on the Prusa XL?

Everything has been slowed down due to COVID. I haven't read anything definitive from Prusa for a while. I'd say Christmas is highly unlikely at this point. Even if it were available, history suggests there will be an immediate 90 day+ backlog for several months after release.

RE: Any info on the Prusa XL?

They've said on the live streams there will be no new products announced this year.

Josef did say on twitter recently ( https://twitter.com/josefprusa/status/1319625228717350918 ) they will announce 'something' at Dubai Expo 2020 (Which starts in Oct '21!) I don't know if it is the XL or something else, but given that the tweet implied it was an alternative to a belt printer I fear it is what we are calling the XL, although I hope I'm wrong.

@rickjbird

Yup! Of course it could be the "Mk 4" they are announcing with the "XL" being announced between Jan and Oct, but in the context of belt printers, the XL would seem to fit better.

Given the COVID related issues with finalising design and supply chain things aren't going to happen quickly, but I do hope that about a year from now I'll look back on these posts and see how completely wide of the mark I was 😀.

Why is no one asking the important question.

Will the XL ship with a 1Kg tub of Haribo giant Strawbs?

I thought by now it was clear you buy the haribo at an inflated price and get a free printer included.

I believe the hold up is a problem with the Haribo filament. Once that's worked out, you'll be able to print your own gummis en masse.

Since we can't wait for the XL, would anyone care to recommend a good, large format FDM printer (around 40 cm x 40 cm)? Out FIRST robotics team has won a grant that requires us to purchase the proposed equipment (we are buying a PRUSA i3 MK3S AND a large format FDM printer). I personally have the i3 MK3S and love it. Thanks.

I am thinking about purchasing the Sovol SV03 since it has good reviews. It is direct drive, which is very good. It also has a BL-Touch pre-installed. It is also fairly large at 350x350x400. The negative is that it has a big, moving bed. In other words, it is not CoreXY. Still, they are going to have a Black Friday sale and this printer will sell for $449.  I think that I am going to buy one to tide me over until Prusa can deliver the Prusa XL.

Good sales prices buy at that size, I would prefer a core XY.

I just got an email from Creality.  They have a 350x350x400 printer where the bed moves up and down.  It is not CoreXY, but at least the bed does not move back and forth.  In addition, it has a BL-Touch installed. I think that this is the one that I am going to buy while I am waiting for my Prusa XL.

For Black Friday (Nov 26 - Nov 30), this printer is going on sale for $495.  That is less than $500!  They will sell out.

On this page, it shows $582.  HOWEVER, on Nov 26, it will drop to $495:  https://www.creality3dofficial.com/products/creality-ender-5-plus-3d-printer

That is great news about the tool swapping. That is my biggest gripe is that every time you need to work on the extruder you have to re-calibrate and re-build everything. Swapping should help that a lot. Hopefully they’ll integrate it into a mod for the MK3.

Plus being able to add a laser cutter or just a Dremel tool, or other stuff would be really cool to.

Personally I don't see tool changer coming to the Mk 3 / Mk 4. I believe Prusa will have 3 product 'families'; the mini, the Mk x and the XL. Given the improving quality of some of their competitors Prusa need to design to a price and adding the complexity of a tool changer that many wouldn't use probably doesn't fit that model. I don't know much about printer design, but I'm not sure how a tool changer would work on the Mk 3 without loosing a lot of bed area.

I don't think it is possible without making the Mk3S a mini Core XY.
