The illumination in the main part of the diner is a small automotive bulb. The entryway and the sign are LEDs with the wiring simply fished through small holes. The sign has a thin transparent PLA diffuser right under the outer shell.
Yes, 3d printing and model railroading go hand in hand. I first saw a live 3d printer at a train show a number of years ago and I immediately realized that it was the answer to the issue of finding reasonably-priced buildings and accessories. I was first printing things at the local 'makerspace', but I broke down and ordered the MK3S last winter when all three of the 'good' printers in the lab were down all at once.
At almost every train show there will be somebody selling 3d printed buildings. If you don't see what you want, they will have a book of models and will print you one on demand, time allowing, of course. What is REALLY nice is that if there is a model, for example, in HO scale and you are an O scale fan, it's trivial to resize and print in your scale. The photo below was at the Denver train show last February right before the Covid hit the fan. It looks like a Creality of some type.
