NYC Relief

Is anyone involved in NYC relief efforts directly here? I live in Brooklyn and am trying to pitch in.

I've tried to get in contact with a few different groups in the area but haven't had any response from them.

I feel like I shouldn't try and contact hospitals directly as they've already got so much on their hands. Does anyone have connections into existing relief groups or have suggestions with getting in contact with Hospitals?

RE: NYC Relief

Hey Matt, I'm in the UWS and am printing a bunch of shields right now but having trouble sourcing plastic for the shield. I've got a few connections, want to join forces?

That sounds good to me. I'm in South Brooklyn near Prospect Park.

I actually just heard back from Will Haude from 3dBK who is printing shields for hospitals in the area. He has this gofundme up and was in a local news story. He said in his email that the primary bottleneck is printing the bands. He was also saying though that in-house production is his priority, so I'm not sure how much that applies to volunteers like us.

I've been looking at these PVC 8mil covers on Amazon as a potential source for the shield material. It's not as good as the spec PET, but I'm not sure if we can source the PET fast enough to be useful?

More than happy to join forces on this.

@eliarchercohen

Looks like my other reply is awaiting moderation because of links. I found some plastic on Amazon that I could use as the shield that's 8mil pvc.

Do you have a good source on Buttonhole elastic? Or are you just planning on using ties?

I'm in south brooklyn near Prospect Park.

@matt-bahr

I got a 50yd roll of normal 1" wide elastic and then I designed a super simple clip to attach it to the upper part of the shield. It should only take about 10" or so of elastic per shield so I should have enough for 50-60 shields. I can share my file here shortly.

Excellent idea. Link me the file when you've got it uploaded?

I've been in contact with a couple guys. One out here close to me in Crown Heights. Another guy has a print farm in Ridgewood who is trying to do 3k/week but is Print bottlenecked. I figure we can coordinate donations all together fairly easily.

Here is the headband attachment design (can't attach .stl files here).  Images below.

Looks like the Amazon store I ordered from is maybe out of the 1" elastic? This is the product my order link takes me to.

For shield material, this just got delivered but I haven't opened it yet. Now it seems out of stock.

I like that strap. I'll start printing that depending on which Elastic arrives first.

The guy by me is doing a different design of headbands, the ones without elastic. I haven't tried them. I might print a test batch off and see what I think about them compared to the prusa design.

I think shield material sourcing will be tricky.

@matt-bahr

Hey Matt -

My elastic showed up and I had to slightly modify the design of the attachment piece. It needed a better grip on the elastic so I added small teeth. Attaching photo below and will then add a link to the new file.

My plastic arrived, its 48x96 inches which should be enough for about 50 shields. Haven't unpacked it yet because I don't want it just sitting around.
