Disinfecting the shield

I am a Registered Nurse at Henry Mayo Hospital in California. I am in the process of printing face shields and donate them to hospitals that needs immediate help. I am going to use latex straps(those used as urinary leg bag straps), instead of the elastic band. I have tested to use bleach to disinfect all the part of the shield ,after use and before use. According to US CDC guideline: to making the bleach solution, mix 5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water. I spray the solution on the shields and let them dry out, preferably outdoor. Please wear mask and gloves and observe personal hygiene and clean the work area with the bleach solution. Otherwise, you are spreading all kinds of germs to others. I really appreciate Prusa providing the face shields prints.

RE: Disinfecting the shield

I live in San Diego (San Marcos) and I only have one printer -MKS3.
Where can you find suitable Plexiglas or laminating film in the US?
How about the latex straps ? CVS carries them?

What do you think about liability issues?
Let’s say I make a few at home. How can I prove that I used gloves and I was properly disinfecting the masks?

Thanks,
James

James,

Good questions! I purchased 40 pieces of 0.5 mm petg clear plastic on ebay not too ago and was able to cut the pattern out using scissors. Or you can try calling this company https://www.professionalplastics.com/PETGSHEET     . They have a location in Fullerton.

We are in a crisis now and we are trying to help the community. Therefore, we should be covered under the Good Samaritan Law. To be safe, follow the guidelines under LAprotects : https://www.dropbox.com/s/subhakiph17x5t2/05_COVID_Best-Practices.pdf?dl=0    And that is the best I will recommend. I personally will post my picture or video on IG to document my sanitary precautions.

The latex straps are health care products. They are straps for urinary leg bags. Should not be too hard to find, but just takes too long to ship. If you can find big rubber bands, they work too.

Hope I answered all your questions!

Hi Beth,

Yes you have answered all my questions. Thanks!

I'll call tomorrow Professional Plastics, they carry whole sheets 0.02” (0.5mm)x 48x96”  for $26.92

I also ordered a .6mm nozzle.
