Self Test Failed (Did not complete)

I just built my Mini and ran the self test and all looked good.. So i left it for a few mins and when I got back it said "Self Test did not complete".

So I kicked it off again, and its annoying that you have to wait for it to cool before it can do the heater test.. And again it looked good.. But failed.

So the 3rd time I watched it closely to see what happens.. And when it gets to the heaters, the Hotend wants to go to 280.. But when it gets to 170 it stops.. But the bed is aiming for 100 degrees and only 1/2 way there when the green progress bar gets to the far end.

It only gets to 55 degrees before it gives up.. Its almost like the bed is heating too slow.. OR.. The test isn't giving the process long enough to complete.

Has anyone else seen this?

Jon

Normal behaviour Jon. Mine heats hotend to 170 / 230 and bed to about 59 /100 before it shuts off and reports all tests complete. Sounds like something else is failing the test not the temperatures. Are you on the latest 4.0.3-RC1 firmware?

Not yet.. I figured i would start with 4.0.2.. After doing the test 3 times it finally completed.

There was one thing I didn't mention.. When I first did the Self Tests I didn't have the sheet on.. When I put it on it passed.. It could be a co-incidence.

My reason for this is that on the MK3 you have to self test with the sheet OFF initally and then put paper under the hotend incase it goes bonkers.

Its possible that with no sheet, the bed wasn't able to get up to temp as there was no "thermal mass" to retain the heat.. So it might not be an issue.

Cheers

Sounds like you have things under control. Confirm I run self test with the sheet on so that may indeed be the issue.

I could have sworn it asks you to put the sheet on, but my memory may be mistaking it for MK3S wizard. Either way, if it's not on screen, it may be a good idea to remind people putting it on. It's not in handbook either.

I can't be 100% sure if it did say.. I was just paraniod since the MK3 goes out of its way to tell you to take it off.. So I figured that if it was going to do a Z calibration like the MK3 and it needed the sheet off, I was better safe than sorry.

I am not 100% sure if having the sheets off caused this.. But its passed now, so I have put it behind me as I have other problems to worry about now.

Cheers

I'm having the same issue but with newer firmware. 4.2.1. Did you ever figure out what the issue was?

@ba

The problem here is that you need to put the steel sheet onto the bed before you run the self test.

Hi All,

in firmware 4.3.0RC1 temperature test work in this way:

start heating by setting an high (unreachable) target value then wait for 45/55 seconds

heatblock temp > 130° ok otherwise fail

bed temp > 50°c  ok otherwise fail

axes are checked for minimum and maximum lenght .

I faced issues on both X and Z axes.

on X axis the problem was the belt tensioner that allowed a too long x run

On Z axis the issue was the heatblock too close to the heatsink so the z run was too much.

I assembled the mini on my own so that's why there were so many errors.

Anyway if You leave the usb stick inserted the coder store the result of the last test, so do a test then check for a file called "test_XXXXXX" which is a txt file with latest test log. Be aware that any test log overwrites the previous one.

So You can see why it fails.
