Old age question..... first layer

So on my previous printer it was easy, get a sheet of paper, lower the nozzle, if you feel resistance as you move the paper under the nozzle your good to go.

Now we have the auto levelling on the Mini so I assume I cant do that. The question is the pictures that Prusa supply on a good first layer are not the greatest so Im still trying to dial in the first layer. Sometime it looks smooth and sometimes not.

Does anyone have some really good pictures of what the first layer should be like.

The reason Im still trying to get what is a perfect layer is Im getting some prints starting to lift of the corners and I don't really want to use a brim if  I can help it. First layer I found on my last printer was crucial in stopping corner lift.

And is it possible to use the paper trick ?

I've got some notes and pics of different methods here that might be useful.

@bobstro

Nice... are the pics mainly PETG ? as its looks different to what getting, only have PLA, but you explain PETG does not need to be a squished, mine look much more squished. I shall get out my macro lens tomorrow and take some of what im getting and see if they are good or bad in your view, Thanks for the reply

On the mini what increments should I be using to get the initial setup. Should I go in 0.010 steps on each run?

Im down to 1.925 at the moment, am I running out of adjustment does it go beyond 2.0 😝

Out of the box it was 0.980 but after doing the PFTE tube I'm over double
