New Mini X-axis pulley issue

Yesterday I received my new Prusa Mini. Assembled and started printing without an issue, but I noticed, that it produced not so uniform surfaces over bigger areas, like waves, and ripples. The slicer indicated nothing similar, so I stabilized the table a bit to be sure it wasn't the issue. Unfortunately today the whole X axis has stopped working. I finally figured out, that the pulley-axle connection was slipping, as the belt did not move, but the motor axle itself was. I disassembled the whole X rail and axis mechanism and threadlocked the set-screws of the pully and finally it produces nice prints.

I just wanted to know if someone else had this issue as well, or is it a common one? It's kind of a bummer, as I haven't seen anything near this "fatal" on any of the machines I encountered previously. I'm a bit disappointed to be honest and will looking forward how the long-term reliability will turn out.

Hello and welcome in the Prusaforum!

It can happen from time to time that something is not set correctly at the factory. But this is not the rule with Prusa. To tighten the pulley from the X-axis you don't have to disassemble anything but you can reach the 2 grub screws via a hole.

Wow, thanks for the info, did not know about it 🙂 It's a bit of a relief to have this option, now that I'm looking, it's trivial, great. It has been printing since then constantly and seems flawless, really nice prints, so at the end I'm really satisfied. Maybe I will threadlock the Y axis lock also to be sure.

Thanks again.
