Clicking extruder gear, video included.
not sure what could be causing this, I've had many successful prints but this occurs randomly. also during infill i've notice it on certain prints. Any ideas?

What did you do to fix? Ive tried push up hot end, change ptfe tube yo spare (slightly bigger), adjust idle screw - no luck on a big print it starts to pint beautiful first layer then just clogs and its over.

I've done all the fixes suggested and I even went as far as buying a bondtech Heatbreak, but same issue has occured time and time again. Print starts great and then randomly decides to clog. There is a serious design defect in the Mini that leads to perpetual heat creep in my opinion.

have you checked the extruder, after I had some clogs the 'teeth' of the extruder pully were 'full' with filament -- I used a needle to clean the pully - but you can also do it the official way: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/guide/how-to-access-and-clean-the-extruder-pulley-mini_126457

Yes- that was the first thing I made sure to check. The filament becomes bulbed in the PTFE tube so I believe it is heat creep.

And you have also checked the brass rings on the PTFE tube? I have read that sometimes 'compressed' too much and as a result the filament cannot pass the tube freely (remove the tube from both ends end feed some filament through should go without friction)

I’m pretty sure mine is extruder related if I take off the brass end of the extruder to hot end ptfe when I have a clog I can push filament through the nozzle
I don’t have anything in the extruder channel but I think I might have some stuff in the gear cog - might be time to pull apart the extruder

Correct, no issue passing the filament through there. The first few layers of a print have no issue until the jam.

i have exactly the same issue and exactly the same setup. bondtech heatbreak, after roughly 2 hours filament stops extruding, can't even unload. Did you find a fix yet?

no solution yet. I feel glad at least I am not alone. I wonder if additional cooling on the hot end would help. I have not been able to further troubleshoot it yet either.

I disassemled the extruder, pulled out the filament from the hotend, losend the screw on the filament tube holder in the extruder and got it up and running again. tried something small, half an hour print. no clicking and it finished beautifully. i'll work my way up in complexity and duration of prints now to see, if it is fixed or this extruder is just not up to par.

You think that it is too tight in there , the tube ? Also did you do a cold pull when you cleaned it out ?

i didn't heat the nozzle. whole operation was performed with the printer turned off. and the filament came out of the heating block quite mangled. but it worked perfectly after. didn't heat it up to max tho.
not sure, if it really was to tight but the extruder didn't click once now. if this is going to be a frequent issue, i'll upgrade to the bondtech extruder, i guess.

Hey there, yesterday i finally received my Mini. All in all it started perfect. The first test print (the sheep) looked really great in the galaxy black.
This morning it started to get strange. I loaded a different PLA and started to print, after 50% of the print job i noticed a clicking noise. I stopped the print because one of the tiny parts became lose and started the same g-code again. The extruder grinded through all different filaments i tested except the Prusament PLA. After several cloggs and grinded Filament junks I now loaded a fresh spool of Prusament, for now without any printing failure. I guess the loading, unloading And ramming speed Is to fast with the set pretension of the extruder. I will try now different filament types with different settings to get the other Filament to print as well.
I’m not sure if that helps, but for my case it seams to be a slicer setting issue.

Hey,
I’m printing now two weeks without any trouble. For automatic unloading I’m raising the hotend temperature to 230 degrees for al PLA’s for PETG, PC and ABS the presets are OK. For Printing PLA I changed the presets in PrusaSlicer to 225 degrees. An other tweek i tried was to reassembled the hotend PTFE liner to insure the PTFE liner have the right length. There is a instruction for that, i don’t know where.

Yes I had that problem also, it was my extruder the screw in the back right below where the filament goes in the extrude needed to be adjusted.
1. Unload filament
2. Took off Bowden tube and feeding from front of extruder, Be careful there’s a small Bowden tube in side.
3. Look down in front you should be able to see all the way through make sure nothing is stuck in there clogging it up.
4. Take the adjustment screw completely out, this will release the front door also check to make sure nothing stuck or clogged.
5. Do the same for the top door if everything is Clear.
6. Put your Filament all the way through making sure you have a clear path leave it sticking out the front end.
7. Reinstall adjustment screw tightened down until you feel it snug around the filament not too tight then with your thumb move the gear on top back-and-forth to check adjust the filament moves easy and clean through. just, tweak adjustment screw until you feel it snug around the filament not too tight then with your thumb move the gear on top back-and-forth to make sure the filament moves easy and clean through. Remember the screw and spring hold the front door in place.
8. Then I pretended like everything was hooked up and went through loaded procedure, with my filament and with the front Bowden tube still off .
9. Inspect the filament make sure it’s not being crushed or chewed and was going through the extruder, then I unloaded it to make sure that worked I did it a couple times, to tweak it if I had to.
9. I have to complaining that I back out the filament leave about a inch Sticking out the front of the extruder.
10. Then I took small Bowden tube slid it down the filament into the extruder make sure it was lined up. Then I did the same with the brass fitting making sure it’s not too tight so I would not damage the small bone tube inside.
11. Then I reinstalled the Bowden tube that goes to the nozzle.
12. Then loaded my filament like usual making sure it was coming out the end of the nozzle.
13. Then I did two different test print make sure it was working properly.
14. The clicking also stopped stop and the filament didn’t have any issues so far.
Let me know if this works for you, the only other thing it could be is the height from board to nozzle but it’s pretty simple to fix. Hope this works for you
