PETG questions

Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask for some advice on printing large parts with PETG. First, my Slic3r settings are attached (I also use 0.85 extrusion multiplier). I've heard PETG prints slowly, but I didn't think it'd be this slow...I'd like to hear more experienced suggestions. I print with eSun and Hatchbox, if that helps.

Second, I'm thinking about upgrading to the multimaterial so I can use soluble interface supports. I print PETG at 240 deg C - can I use the Prusa PVA+ for the support?

Thanks in advance!

Re: PETG questions

I've only been printing for a couple of weeks, but I can tell you that my defaults in Slic3r PE for 0.35 mm are higher than yours show. I have as follows:

perimeters: 50
small perimeters: 20
external perimeters: 40
infill: 60
solid infill: 60
top solid infill: 50
support material: 50
support material interface: 100%
bridges: 20
gap fill: 40

Nozzle still at 240/bed at 90

I have been using Solutech PETG and have been satisfied with the results so far.

Re: PETG questions

I've printed some larger parts in ESun PETG and didn't notice it to be that slow. I would start with the default PETG settings in Slic3r (which aren't too bad aside from stringing) and take it from there.

I also just printed something with the latest version and noticed an improvement so if you haven't already, d/l the latest s/w.

Re: PETG questions

I just about to print my first PETG item using 3d solutech filament..

I read on the filament it wants 200C-240C print temp. The Slic3r profile for generic PET is WAY higher.... cause for concern?
Anyone made a profile for the 3d solutech PETG stuff? ❓

Re: PETG questions

I am also interested if anyone has a solid profile they use on their MK3 for 3D Solutech PETG. I am getting my printer delivered today, and want to print my lack enclosure parts on the printer with PETG.

Re: PETG questions

No worries to bump up the nozzle temperature for PETG. Especially if you print functional and bigger parts you will get better layer bonding. The only downside is more stringing (which shouldn't be an issue for those parts).
Generic PETG settings and 240-255C is perfectly fine.
On the other hand if you print too cold for the filament/part, you will have issues.

RE: PETG questions

I've attached a config that works very well for me printing with AmazonBasics PETG. It should be relatively easy to modify for 3D Solutech or any other. (Have not tried 3D Solutech, but have used MakerGeeks, AmazonBasics, Colorfabb, Filastruder Veracity and many other PETGs with this same basic setup.)
